Infant Program Objectives


Physical Development:  Provide an environment that fosters growth in gross and fine motor development at developmentally appropriate levels for each infant.


     Gross Motor Objectives

  1. Develop muscles to hold head and chest up

  2. Develop muscles to roll stomach to back and onto sides

  3. Develop ability to swipe objects with hands

  4. Develop hand and arm control to hold bottle

  5. Coordinate muscles, arms, and legs to crawl

  6. Develop strength to pull self up

  7. Develop muscle strength to walk without support


     Fine Motor Objectives

  1. Develops ability to hold a rattle or small object

  2. Tracks a moving object with eyes

  3. Develops control to feed self with spoon and/or fingers

  4. Exchanges object between hands

  5. Develops ability to bring objects together with hands

  6. Develops ability to place objects into a container

  7. Grasps a tiny object using a pincer grasp


Intellectual Development: Provide an environment that fosters growth in language, critical thinking, exploration, concentration and sensorial skills at developmentally appropriate levels for each infant.


     Cognitive Objectives

  1. Explores objects with mouth and hands

  2. Connects sight with sounds

  3. Discriminates needs

  4. Follows falling object with eyes

  5. Searches for a hidden object


Social / Emotional Development: Provide an opportunity for each infant to develop positive and nurturing relationships with peers, adults, and their environment.


     Social/Emotional Objectives

  1. Focuses on face of caregiver or another infant

  2. Responds to voice

  3. Smiles responsively

  4. Discriminates wants

  5. Plays independently

  6. Plays simple games (Ex: Peek-A-Boo, Itsy Bitsy Spider)


Language Development: Provide an opportunity for each infant to develop expressive and receptive language with each other, and their caregivers.


     Language Objectives

  1. Laughs and responds with a smile

  2. Utters speech sounds

  3. Babbles responsively

  4. Imitates sounds

  5. Responds to instructions
